Actionscript 2.0/3.0
Through my career, I have had to illustrate, design, and code online training solutions using Adobe Flash. In order to meet the objectives of the learning environment, heavy actionscript skills were needed in order to connect to the LMS API, wait for initiation of the back-end and then proceed with the front-end application. I have had to designed various Flash games including, but not limited to; drag and drop, multiple choice, custom game scenerios, and multiple choice.
Some environments I have coded in AS3, utilizing Flash’s new OOP architecture. In this case, the client (VisionWise/Texas Parks and Wildlife) needed me to build a database application entirely driven in XML, accessible to a Flash front-end. The application included a picture gallery, driven in XML, a 160 page book coded in XHTML accessed by the Flash front-end, and the creation of a dynamic 30-50 page document for users to print.
PHP 4.0
I have skinned my CMS environments which just so happened to be coded in PHP.
In the past, I investigated PHP/Flash Remoting capabilities and am currently in the
process of building an RSS/XML reader/validation utility for a friend.
Coldfusion MX 7.0
A majority of my time in the scripting world has involved Coldfusion programming.
Once upon a time, the firm I worked for was an Allaire/Macromedia reseller / preferred
vendor. It was through this relationship that I was able to beta-test the web’s
newest technologies Macromedia had to offer.
I have designed actual applications in Coldfusion. One application, laid out in the
MVC format, is a testing generator which allows for administrators to insert questions
and answers, weight the answers, and then display in a modular format which
my company had used in various websites. One of which is our Generation Profile,
located at www.generationalprofile.com. I have built additions to the codebase
which imports CSV/XML files and then inserts each field into the testing environment
I had created.
For the Texas Parks project as briefly mentioned above, I had created an XML importer
script in Coldfusion which read through a large CSV file and appropriated the
data into a format suitable for the Flash environment.
Javscript
Being able to code in Javascript is probably a requirement for any Flash developer.
In the old days, before using XHTTP or LiveConnect had become a common practice,
we had to use Javascript and iFrames to basically talk back and forth with the
Flash object in the main frame. Building courseware which was SCORM compliant
also meant you had to know quite an amount of javascript. I would be more than
happy to provide samples of my code if needed.
